HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION

- - - - X

  • Since Sealand is in the middle of the ocean, it’s natural resources are fish, such as mackerel.

  • Sealand isn’t considered a country by many, including the UK (in 2000, the UK home office spokesperson stated, “We've no reason to believe that anyone else recognises it either.”), but the people of Sealand believe they have fulfilled all four requirements (“population, territory, government and the capacity to enter into negotiation with other states” -BBC) for someplace to become an independent state.

When the United Kingdom changed their territorial waters, they technically made Sealand a British Island, although it became an independent state before the territory was changed. Sealand makes almost no impact on its environment.

MOVEMENT

  • Sealand has a large stock of food that needs to be replenished when it runs out, to feed the residents who live there. The food stock is brought in by either boat or helicopter.

  • Sealand has a low immigration rate, as in 2002, there were only 27 residents.

REGIONS

  • Sealand is 6 acres of steel and other materials, so it doesn’t necessarily consist of any ‘regions’.
